Lectio for Families is a resource to help you, as a whole family, read the Bible and explore faith through conversation and prayer together, every day.
We created Lectio for Families for families with children aged between 7-11 years old, but is likely to be suitable for those who are younger and slightly older too!
The writing and reading team includes adults and children who are part of the 24-7 Prayer movement around the world.
Some families use it around a table while they eat breakfast or dinner together. Others use it while they are out-and-about, in the car on the school-run, or while they’re out walking together. And some use it at the end of the day, as they get ready for bed. Again, find what works for you and your family.
Lectio for Families is available in both text and audio. You can choose to listen to the audio together, pressing pause on your device to discuss the day’s question or to pray together. Or you can choose to read the content as a family yourselves, maybe passing the device from one person to another, taking turns to read each section.
Each day’s content includes a Memory Verse, a short Bible passage to read and reflect on, a question to discuss as a family together and simple prompts for prayer. Join us for 5-10 minutes as we P.R.A.Y.:
Pause to be still,
Rejoice with a memory verse and Reflect on the Bible,
Ask God to help us and others, and…
say Yes to God’s plans for our lives.
Over the course of the year, the Lectio for Families content follows weekly themes. Sometimes these themes are seasonal (e.g. Advent, Lent), or they are around a subject (e.g. Prayer in the Psalms, Mark’s Gospel). The content also regularly focuses on six practices that help us follow the three great loves at the heart of Christianity:
We will grow in our love for God through prayer and creativity (Matthew 22:37).
We will grow in our love for one another through hospitality and justice (Matthew 22:39).
We will grow in our love for the world through mission and learning (Matthew 28:18-20).
