Our Father in heaven,

Pray the Bible

The origins

Created to help you develop a deeper, daily connection with God.

Inspired by the ancient practice of Lectio Divina, daily devotionals guide users to pray the Bible through Scripture, reflection, and prayer each morning, midday and evening. Since launching in 2019, Lectio 365 has helped thousands of people make prayer a regular, life-giving habit – wherever they are and whatever their day holds.

P.R.A.Y

Lectio 365 prayers are inspired by the ancient practice of Lectio Divina (which means ‘Divine Reading’), a way of meditating on the Bible that’s been used by Christians for centuries.

Pause, breathe deeply, and be still in God’s presence

Rejoice with a Psalm and reflect on Scripture

Ask God to help you and those you care about

Yield to God; welcome his love, his plans and his presence into your day.

On Sundays, we take a break from the normal routine to pray a different kind of Sabbath prayer.

The app celebrates heroes of faith on Feast Days, marks significant moments in the church calendar, and welcomes guest hosts throughout the year.

Daily prayer rhythms

Jesus and his disciples prayed three times a day, and the early church continued this practice, uniting around daily prayer. This rhythm helped spread the church worldwide. With Lectio 365, we seek to revive it today.
Morning Prayers

Morning Prayers are inspired by the ancient practice of ‘Lectio Divina’ meaning ‘divine reading’. This follows the ‘P.R.A.Y’ pattern, which you can read about in How to Pray by Pete Greig, and in The Lectio Course.

Midday Prayers

At midday we pause to pray The Lord’s Prayer and consider a short reflection to connect with God. The prayer each day will be focused on compassion: moving attention from your agenda to see the world around you from God’s perspective, interceding for his kingdom to come.

Night Prayers

Night prayers give the opportunity to focus your thoughts on God as you prepare to sleep, taking inspiration from the early Christian practice of ‘Examen’:
Reflect on the day that has passed, relinquishing stress and control.
Rejoice in God’s goodness.
Repent of sins, receiving forgiveness.
Rest in readiness for sleep.

The Six Practices

The Christian faith is rooted in two loves – for God and others (Matt. 22:37–39) – and in Jesus’ call to love the world by making disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19–20).

Lectio 365 centres on six practices that fuel these loves in our devotionals: prayer and creativity (love God), justice and hospitality (love others), mission and learning (love the world).

Explore the six practices

Prayer

Together we imitate the early church by pausing to pray three times a day, adapting ancient practices of prayer for our modern world. We learn to pray as we reflect on Bible passages, and as we celebrate the lives of heroes of faith.

Justice

To be a follower of Christ, it’s not enough to simply know Jesus for myself. I have an obligation to love my neighbour, whoever they are, near or far. As philosopher and social critic Dr. Cornel West wrote: “justice is what love looks like in public.”

Hospitality

New Testament hospitality is not about enjoying dinner parties with interesting friends. It is the practice of welcoming strangers, outsiders, the homeless and the poor. An ancient rule of monastic life was that all who came as pilgrims should be welcomed as if they were Christ himself.

Learning

The aim of learning is not to be clever enough to win arguments, or to be more successful than other people. Nor is it simply to acquire knowledge. Rather, it is to know God better and love him more. Learning is the life-long practice of disciples who make disciples.

Mission

The practice of mission is not to impose my culture and way of life on others. It’s simply to be like Jesus in the world – to love and be kind to everyone, and to point others toward God, explaining why I have hope and joy, even in tough times.

Creativity

Creativity has been a hallmark of the church throughout the centuries. Ancient monasteries were centres of excellence in the visual arts, in music and in architecture. Artistic expression has always been part of how we worship God. We reflect our Creator and appreciate the beauty of God’s creation through our own creativity.

We listen to the Lectio 365 reflection each day over breakfast and it’s a great day way to start the day. For me it’s important to ground and recenter myself in God and the content, the music, the prayers in the reflection really work well in this.
